Max Interval Training

by Casey, on Sep.20, 2009 Leave a Comment

The secret to these mind-blowing results : MAX Interval Training. Shaun T took traditional interval training and flipped it on its head—you perform long bursts of maximum-intensity exercises with short periods of rest. Each dvd workout keeps you constantly challenged as you alternate between aerobic and anaerobic intervals performed at your MAX. The result: burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour and get the most insane body in 60 days.

My take.

This makes the workout truely insane. I mean you really feel your lungs burning.  Within 2 weeks my endurance improved and I started leading the pack during long runs with my Navy co-workers.  That’s a good feeling.

Is This Stopping You From Losing Weight or Getting the Fitness Results You Want?

by Casey, on Sep.14, 2009 Leave a Comment

Do you start working out for a few weeks and then stop

because you don’t have time anymore. Or have you bought a new treadmill, elliptical, bow flex, or abs machine and only used it for a month and then used it to hang cloths on.

Well I believe this is a common problem. So what happens?

Life happens and we DECIDE that other priorities are more important than getting in shape.

Sound right?

Or we just don’t see results right away and think to our selves “This takes too much time..I got better things to do.”

Our health should be a very high priority.

We just don’t make it one because it’s so easy to put off. Who is going to tell us we need to work out or eat right. No one, it’s your life and your body. No one, cares if you don’t.

I don’t think it’s that we don’t care. It’s that other priorities are going to have someone to tell you take care of them and others are always going to ask you to do things for them. There is outside pressure with other priorities.

BORING WORKOUTS don’t HELP the Problem.

If we are bored and don’t enjoy working out then we are going to find other priorities sub consciously that need to be done vice working out.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM

We are bored and don’t like our workouts.

If you enjoy your workouts and even look forward to them do you think you are going to find ways to get out of doing it?

Hell no.

It’s a priority …you are working out from 5pm to 6pm. PERIOD.

Same goes with watching your favorite movie, poker game, football game, etc.

You make sure you do these things even if you have other things to do because you enjoy doing these things.

No rocket science I know.

So What Are Some Ways To Make Working Out Enjoyable and Motivating?

  • Start a Fitness Challenge at work or with your family members. 60 day or 90 day challenge on who can lose the most body fat percentage or weight. Have weekly weigh in and body fat checks. This is good for all you competitors out there.

  • Find someone you don’t like that is fit and promise to yourself you are going to look better than them. Think about it every time your work out.

  • Buy a Home DVD Workout that has a fun trainer talking to you during the work out telling you what to do. Also most of them come with a calendar so you can keep track of your progress. More interactive.

  • Sign up on some online Forums/Message Boards that discuss fitness, nutrition, and weight loss. On these boards you can connect with others that are making a lifestyle change also. Our message boards have personal trainers and nutritionist to answer your questions.

  • Enter into an Online Weight Loss Contest for a chance to win money for losing weight. This turns the whole process into a game. We have people winning daily prizes from $300 bucks to $1000 bucks. There are quarterly winners getting $10,000 and yearly winners receiving $25,000. Money can motivate you sometimes. Learn more about the Million Dollar Body Game by Clicking Here

  • Tell everyone at work that you are going to lose 10 lbs is a month or 2 months.  You will be motivated because you told everyone you were going to do it.

  • Find a buddy and have weekly check ins with each other and promise to keep each other on track.

Hope this helps…you need to find a way to stay interested and motivated.

I Stopped Running To Lose More Weight

by Casey, on Aug.26, 2009 3 Comments

Most of you reading this may be thinking “What’s he talking about?

I always thought running was the best way to lose weight.”

Yes, thought the same thing for a long time.

I used to run, run, and run more and I would end up having sore shins and knees.

I would start to lose weight but then I would be to sore or injured to run long distances anymore.

Now what?

Well, that brings me to my point.

Running will burn calories of course. But you know what?

It also will BURN MUSCLE!

That sucks! Look at all those people in the Runners Magazine. Skinny, no muscle.

Now, if you lose muscle then you greatly reduce the ability for your body to burn fat.

Anyone out there hate running?

If you think you can lose weight effectively by running..good luck. Been there done that.

You need to cross train. I did ZERO running and lost 15 lbs in the comfort of my home.

What you need to do is add some fast paced strength training to your workouts.

Muscle Burns Fat

What’s funny about this is that strength training is so much easier than going out on a boring run.

I’m not talking about being a gym rat and trying to look like a damn bodybuilder.

No gym. No huge home workout systems.

Just full body strength training with your body weight and some bands or dumbbells.

Add some ply metrics (jump training) and some other cardio workouts like Shawn T’s Insanity Home DVD Workout that don’t include pounding your legs and knees every day.

You will build more muscle and have less injuries.

On top of that you will lose weight and speed up your metabolism.

So you will keep it off. Your new muscle needs energy to function.

It’s going to get that energy from your love handles.

Sound good?

Stay tuned for ways to utilize the workouts that worked for me

And some nutrition tips that are a MUST with this plan.
